Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: Motorcycles, salvage title, perfect alignment

Question
I looking for a motorcycle,  I wanted to ask about motorcycles with a Salvage title.  Do you advise buy a salvage title bike and is it more expensive to insure one.  thanks

Answer
Jon,

Thanks for the question. It's a pretty easy answer: NEVER buy a motorcycle with a salvage title. Motorcyles are not like cars. If a car has been crashed and repaired, you can come pretty close to the original alignment and the car is perfectly drivable. Not so with motorcycles. Because bikes are "unstable" (they tip over easily if you didn't notice), it is pretty impossible to "unbend" one into perfect alignment. And if you are riding a bike with a bent frame, bent forks or bent anything, it can result in an unexpected weave at speed, instability while turning or major failure while riding. That always results in one of two things: injury or death.

Do not buy a bike with a salvage title, no matter how cheap it is, how much the owner assures you it is "just like new" or how nice it looks. The possible problems and consequences are just not worth it. Get a used bike that's never been wrecked and have a mechanic check it out to be sure.

Ride safe, have fun.
