Used Cars: returning used car and getting back my trade, reputable dealership, honolulu hawaii

Question
I just purchased a used car from a reputable dealership in Honolulu, Hawaii this past Saturday, Feb 19.  I had a trade in, but now I want to return the used car and get my trade in back. When I called the salesperson today, he said that my trade in was already sold to a wholesaler and that they would have to sell me another car. Is tnis correct?  My contract says I have 3 days to cancel the purchase.  What can I do?

Answer
Hello Frances. I have never heard of a contract giving you 3 days to cancel a purchase of a used car. The only time you have a 3 day law is if the salesman came to your house to sell you something(vacuum, encyclopedias etc). Here in the state of Michigan once you take possession of the vehicle(as soon as you drive away) you own it. Your trade may have been sold already, many dealers only keep certain years and miles of older cars. You didn't tell me why you want to return the car.If the car is broken or running poorly thats one thing but if you just  The best thing you can do is ask the dealer(nicely)if you can trade the vehicle back in for something else. Keep in mind that the dealer probably doesn't have to do anything but its worth a try. Good Luck, Shane
