Used Cars: Used car safety laws, motor vehicle commission, safety laws

In California, where can I find the law that states what a used car must have in order to be considered legally safe, specifically the minimum amount of brake wear.  I believe it must be >60%.  Thanks!

I dont really know where you would find that.  Oklahoma is one of the most strict states for used car laws, and we do not even have laws like that.  If you were in Oklahoma I would tell you to get in contact with the "Used Vehicle and Parts Commission.  They are like the "Used Car Lot Police".  But I do not know what that would be called in California, you would probably need to contact a Tag Agent, if you have one, or a Motor Vehicle Commission.
