Used Cars: 1996 Saturn, saturn sc1, mechanical inspection

Question
Hi. Thanks for taking my question. I'm about to turn 16 and have found a starting car. It's a 1996 2-door Saturn SC1 with 350 thousand kilometers. It needs new tires and a new battery, although it's in really good condition. I was wondering how much I should offer the couple and if the main problems with this car are easy to fix. Thanks again!

Answer
Hi Michaela

I assume by reading your question your located in Canada, the car is worth next to zero, sorry to say.

However should you persue to purchase here are some steps to follow.

Under Canadian law the vehicle must be certified before it's road worthy, you must therefore take car for a mechanical inspection to get an estimate on cost to see if car is worth buying.

If the cost of mechanical issues combined with selling price is around $1000 to $1200. I would consider the investment.
