Used Cars: 2000 mitsubishi lancer-gdi, mitsubishi gdi, mitsubishi products

hi jay, i live in Jamaica and would like to purchase the above mentioned car.ive been warned that this car was not made for the Jamaican market because of the gdi engine . why is this? what does gdi mean? . found what seems like great buy but i am worried that this person may be trying to sell me a lemon . please save the ignorant

Well let me start with this, according to my NADA book, 2002 was the first year the lancer was made!  In a nutshell, GDI stands for Gas Direct Injection.  I dont see why GDI would be affected itself, but the engine may have some type of a bad reputation, because that does go hand in hand with a lot of mitsubishi products.  Go to www.google.com and search for Mitsubishi GDI engines.  I seen some forums in there talking about some of the problems they were having, but I still am not sure why the jamaican market would be that different.
