Trucking: Do I need authority to lease a tractor?, brokerage company, lease companies

Question
Hi Israel,

If I want to try running loads for a brokerage company and I don't want to buy a truck initially, if I lease a truck to try it out do I need my own authority to lease a tractor?

Or would I only have to show proof of liability insurance?

In other words, can I try running some loads with a leased tractor without my own authority?

Answer
Hi Ted,

Lease companies like Ryder, has all the paperwork needed to operate. You can lease a truck for less than 30 days at the time and you will not require your own DOT #. Check with Ryder or Penske about leasing a tractor. Bare in mind it will cost, but you're in a walk away situation.
