Trucking: Legal Maximum height and length requirements when hauling cars on a carrier, cargo insurance, height max

Question
My boss had me pick a load of cars.  He does not seem to care how high or long the load ends up being.  Could you please tell me what is the legal maximum height and length and carrier can be loaded according to DOT regulations?

Also,  my boss is charging me for ALL damages I caused when loading a couple of cars on my rig.  I am a company driver and the company has cargo insurance but refuses to use it.  Is it legal to charge me for all damages and not send in any claims to his insurance company?

Answer
Hi Benard, The legal limits are: 13ft 6 inches overall height,  Max. 8 ft overall width.  You should have a lease agreement or Terms of Employment that would spell out what you should be responsible for as to the cargo. Normally it would not exceed the deductible amount of the insurance. Good Luck . J P long
