Trucking: Starting a fleet, owner operator trucks, luck mike

Question
Hi Michael

Can you please tell me the disadvantages or advantages of leasing it to a carrier. I wanted to buy a truck hire a driver and lease it to a carrier. But what I see carriers are paying .90 to 1.20 CPM for owner operator trucks. When I take off .40 cpm for a driver and .50 just for gas there is nothing left, not to mention truck loan, maint, ins , etc.
Is this just me seeing this picture so dark or is this for real. My next choice is to have brokers provide me with loads but even in that situation the best picture is to break even. The best and the hardest is to find my own loads , but when starting a business that is not easy and it may take months if not years to be fully independent.

Any suggestions comments or critiques would be appreciated.
Thanks Ray

Answer
Welcome to the wonderful world of trucking.
Many owners drive the truck, hence "owner-operator" for many years before jumping in feet first. You answered all your questions. You are the first person to fully realize the full picture. Judging by your questions, If you drive for a while, I think you can run a small fleet in about 2-3 years. Good Luck. Mike
