Trucking: Split Sleeper Birth, informative articles, sleeper berth

Question
Say I have driven 10 1/2 hours, I want to make it home which is another 3 hours away........can I take a consecutive 8 hour break and then drive the remaining 3 hours home as long as I go off duty once I arrive there.  I already know that a 2 hour break goes against your 14. But what if I take the 8 hour consecutive...?  27 year professional and still confused.

As of the first week of August 2007 they have repealed the HOS yet again. but to your Question; No, you HAVE to be off duty or sleeper berth for 10 hours before you can drive again. this might change again soon, there is a newspaper at truckstops called "The Trucker" that had a lot of informative articles to help you.
