Trucking: car hauling, new corvette, air rides

Can you please tell me all the differnt paper work needed to haul cars under 26000lbs, i heard you dont need a cdl.
Business licence, cargo insurance, ect.
Talking about getting a 3 or 4 car carrier trailor,which is better the goose necks or fifth wheels?
I have a 2004 F-250 super duty diesel, with short bed, non duelly, also put in air rides in the back.  Thanks Kevin

Hi Kevin.

Here's how the CDLs break down...

Class A CDL – Required to operate a combination vehicle (truck and trailer) if the GVWR of the trailer is 10,001 pounds or more, and when added to the GVWR of the power unit (truck), the gross combined weight rating (GCWR) is over 26,001 pounds.

Class B CDL – Required to operate any vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 pound or more. A trailer may be towed if the GVWR of the trailer is 10,000 pounds or less.

Class C CDL – Required to operate any vehicle with a GVWR of 26,000 pounds or less, if the vehicle is required to be placarded to transport Hazardous Materials or transports 16 or more passengers, including the driver.

I would advise not having a business license or no cargo insurance.  A license is cheap and if you drop a new Corvette, I don't think you want to buy it.  Look into getting your DOT numbers too.

I'd look into a wedge, fifth wheel setup.  A gooseneck isn't bad, but I'm biased towards fifth wheels.
