Trucking: Need Urgent help, dot office, cargo liability

Question
Hello Bob, I am an owner operator with a small fleet of 4 tractor trailers. I currently do business with a company that really was "by the books" so they did really ask me for much requirements. but now they have a new trucking company that is taking over the shipping with prices that the others and I (O/O) cant compete with. So I decided to try to find other companies to provide my services, however its becoming a big hassle cause I really didnt know I needed so much stuff to get into another company. I dont hace and MC# nor an ICC# I only have a DOT#, been doing this for 3 years now like that.
So my question is: What else do I need in order to get loads let say from "getloaded.com" or something similar?
and any additional info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Answer
STEPS FOR AUTHORITY

1. You have your USDOT#.
2. Next, File the OP-1 to obtain an MC#.
3. File the BOC-3 with the FMCSA.
4. Certificate of Authority is granted.
5. Truck Authorities (Common or Contract) must file Single State Registration (SSRS) with your base state.
9. After recieving the RS-3, you are now legal to begin operations.
10. Keep a copy of the RS-3 in each vehicle.

Web sites like www.dotauthority.com or www.tfig.org can help you out with all your numbers.  YOUR FIRST CALL should be to your state's DOT office.  They will tell you everything you need to operate.

When calling brokers, you'll have to fax to them your proof of cargo/liability insurance and proof of operating authority.  They'll want to know your DOT, MC, ICC numbers, etc.  Not really too difficult.

Like I said before, though, contact your state's DOT office.  You may have more than you think, and they can look up your DOT number and help you out.

Good luck and let me know if I can be of further help!
