Bob,
Thanks for the great advice.  It has really helped us to get going.  Now its time to make sure that I have everything organized for him.  I am a bit of a "techie" and would like to have software to help keep him organized.  There is so much logging and tracking that it seems to be almost impossible to do it all by hand.  Is there any trucking software that you recommend especially for owner/operators like my dad?  I will be the one doing all of the tracking for him, all I want him to do is show me his log book and give me his fuel receipts and BOL's that he collects.

I know that there are is a lot of trucking software out there.  Myself, I have software from www.truckershelper.com.  I also have an accountant, too.  He's kind of learned trucking through me, but has paid for his services countless times with the money he's saved me in business.  It's something you might look into also.

Like I said before, check around with different companies.  Simply type in "trucking software" in a search engine and check them all out.  Good software will help you with all your taxes, invoices, logging, etc.  Some will let you try it for 30 days for free, so it's worth a shot.  It will help you out a lot.
