Trucking: Commerical Driving Hrs, legal time, hours of service

Question
In the state of New York how may hours a day by law should a commerical Driver Drive? A week or per day?

Answer
Hello Nancy,
The legal time a Commercial Driver may drive in one period is Eleven (11) after 10 hour or more break with Eight (8) in Sleeper or all off-duty.  The regs are not based on days.
In other words, dirve 11, take 8 in Sleeper and 2 off, then may drive 11 again.  The other limits on Hours of Service are:  May not drive after 14 hours from time first came on duty, until take 10 off.  Also May not work (Drive and On-duty) more than 70 hours in 8 day period if company operates all 7 days of week.  In operate only 6 days, limit is 60 Hours in 7 days.  Glad I could be of Help. Good Luck \
