Trucking: truck driver vision requirements, distant visual acuity, carrier safety regulations

Question
I am legally blind in one eye, can I still pass the phycial for a class one in california? thank you!

Answer
Dear Barry,
Good vision as class 1 license holder is a necessity for the safety of others and yourself on the road, also you need to be able to see the roadsigns well enough in advance so as to be able to make lane changes, turns, and stops well enough in advance.
However i will let you read a copy of the federal motor carrier safety regulations which state.
391.41 (10) Has distant visual acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in each eye without corrective lenses or visual acuity separatly corrected to 20/40 (snellen) or better with corrective lenses, distant binocularacuity of at least 20/40 (snellen)in both eyes with or without corrective lenses, field of vision of at least 70 degree in the horizontal meridian in each eye, and the ability to recognize the colors of traffic signals and devices showing standard red , green and amber.

                            Sincerly,
