Truck Repair: peterbilt steering columns

I had a 1996 379 pete and now have 2006 379,can I put a 1996 style steering column in a 2006 ? It comes out and goes down lower .

I dont work on peterbilt on a regular occasion so youd have to just try it and see. But on my opinion i wouldnt see how it shouldnt work they havent significantly changed the body style and the distance shoud be about the same if not the same between the two model years.
