Truck Repair: N14 STC rebuild, n14 cummins, screw driver

Question
H,  Thanks alot I ordered the kit .  Do you think that this could be reponsable for the oil consumption in the area of 3 to 4 gallons weekly? Thats about what it is using but there is no leaks or wet spots I can find and it smokes really bad when first started and continues basically till you start driving. Once driving smoke is minimal if any. Even just blip[ing the throttle a couple times doesent clear it up when first started like I said it does it until you staryt driving. Really weird but I need to straighten it out. Has under 320,000 original and starts and runs like a champ otherwise...any input is appreciated ....thanks again

-----Question-----
Hi cliff,

Wondering, I see the STC rebuild kit sells for about 40.00 I am mechanicaly able but mostly on cars andI am wondering if this is a fairly simple straight forward process...any secrets or tips for rebuilding you can share? I have a 93 international with N14 cummins and am following your prior advice to me on rebuild of the valve. Where is this located on this  model? Also would this valve effect fuel consumption at all?  Thanks again for all your help

Not real hard, just some "o" rings and a seal plate. You have to remove barrel from housing that has a snap ring holding it in.Valve usually makes it not shift properly & when o rings get bad cause oil to get into fuel. The STC valve is a block mounted with 2 5/16" bolts on the fuel pump side of engine.Has a #8 oil line from eng block to valve & from valve to oil manifold on rocker housing.

TO REMOVE BARREL FROM HOUSING:TAKE SNAP RING OUT,FLIP IT OVER & GET A SCREW DRIVER & GENTLY TAP IT WITH HAMMER TO GET IT OUT.THERE IS A SPRING WASHER IN THE BOTTOM & MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE O RINGS IN THE RIGHT PLACE..ie brown in the middle, black with white strip on on end & solid black on the other.I beleive there are 2 black/white stripe on one end.

Answer
Like I said before when the o rings get hard they will allow oil to get into the fuel pump. The way to check is find the #4 line from fuel pump to STC valve & take it loose to look.Should look like just fuel but if it is brownish then oil is mixing in the fuel & burning it.
