Question -
N-14 celect + 525 hp in a 2001 Pete

When I run loaded (does not act up empty or first thing when cool) under a good pull after 50-60 miles the truck pulls normally about 32-33 lbs boost.  Then it will drop to about 24 lbs boost under the load.  It may or may not return to 32-33 lbs boost while driving. The truck runs normal again (for 50-60 miles) if left to cool/sit for a day.  The ecm has been replaced with a loner and the behaivor continued.  It consistantly drops boost/power under a load after it has been running for a while.  We replaced the oem cab/firewall to ecm harness with a spare and no difference.  I checked the air to air for leaks (none visible) no error code comes up on the ECM, This behaivor happens both with the foot pedal and the cruise control.

Any thoughts ideas would be appreciated.  It has been in the local shops and other than a loner ECM and a suggested engine wiring harness replacement they have not been able to correctly diagnose.

Sounds like a sensor is reading "funny" when it gets hot & the ECM derating to compinsate for the reading. At least it is not that VERY expensive ECM.Really need a laptop with Insite to make a road test or a dyno to monitor the engine to see whats making this happen.

Question continued:

Where can a person get a copy of the insight program? Does it come with hook up cables from laptop to ecm port?
Any ideas on a particular sensor it is more likely to be that is causing a fault?  Can a person bypass a sensor to test or will that cause an immediate fault?  Thank you again for your advice :)

Answer
I am not sure on what other software is out there for troubleshooting since I had the Cummins programs. The Insite does not come with any adaptors just software. The cables & adaptor are sold in a kit for like $400(Inline 4 kit).Im sure someone makes something for that but I havent looked. You really need a program that will do more than just read faults. You need to read sensor data too to find that problem.Have you checked VSS sensor or trans output yoke??
