Truck Repair: 4 wheel drive stuck, torque converter, ford f250

Question
My Ford F250 recently underwent some transmission repair (torque coverter replaced). While driving it home from the repair shop, I noticed that it was in 4 wheel drive (hadn't been put there prior to repairs) and was stuck in 4WD. Any ideas on how that could have happened or how to fix? The service dept.took no responsibility, though offered to look at it. I haven't committed to bringing it back there.

Answer
Hello Ken,
I assume you have the 4X4 shift lever on the floor, rather than the electric shift toggle switch?
To replace the torque converter requires removing the transfer case, and the transmission, and during that process, the shifter must also be removed.
I would guess they may have not gotten something back right during the reassembly, and yes...it is their responsibility to get it back the way it was.
Take it to them, and just show the service manager.
