Truck Repair: 400 Cummins Big Cam 4, jake brake, inch pounds

Question
-------------------------
Followup To I appreciate your time and knowledge. This is my first experience working on a diesel motor. There is a motor tag that says injector lash is T.S.0 inch lash and the intake valve is .011 and exhaust is.023. Maybe you can explan why they put that tag on the motor? I'm going out to the shop to adjust my truck the way you said to. Now that I know how.  Once again Thank You.   James
Question -
I need to know what the valve and injector setting procedure is for a 400 cummins big cam 4 , the cpl is 833. The motor is brown and has three heads it's a 1987. Engine number is 11413977 it's a NTC 400.Is the setting for the exhaust .023 or .027 ? Intake .011 or .014 ? Is the injector set at o lash or because of the cpl 833 is it 105 inch pounds?    Thanks James
Answer -
You adjust valves & inj on same cyl.The mark A is now 1-6,B is 2-5, & C is 3-4.Valves are Int 0.014 & Exhaust is 0.027.The injector you tighten screw until injector plunger bottoms out to 105 in lbs.Adjust the injector first, then the valves.Jake brake setting is 0.018 if it has them.

Answer
They changed it form IBC(inner base circle) to OBC(outer base circle)method for the wear in the STC tappet. Bottoming them out assures that they get full travel. That is they same method for adjusting the electronic engines but injector adjustment & brake adjustment is different.
