Truck Repair: cummins inj. pump timing, gear shaft, cam gear

Question
have a 1994 cummins b series in a bus. The mechanic didn't read the tech manual and just removed the inj.pump without putting eng. on tdc.or aligning the pin in the inj pump (inline). The pump drive gear is not keyed to the pump shaft. Therefore, how do we go about timing the new replacement pump?

Answer
Under where the pump mounts is the timing pin that you just push in while barring the engine over until it pops in the cam gear.Just dont forget to pull it back out whe you find TDC.The injection pump if in line has a timong plug on the side that sticks out.Just get a 15/16 or 24MM wrench and remove cap.Look in the hole until the slash on the govenor is in the center.Flip timing pin around & insert it into pump to hold TDC of pump.Install cap hand tight to keep it there until pump is installed & gear seated on shaft.Clean gear & shaft with contact cleaner before installing pump.Install pump mounting nuts & tighten.Seat gear to 106 IN LBS.Remove fuel pump timing pin & install in cap. Then install cap.Tighten fuel pump mounting gear to 145 ft lbs(30MM socket or 1 3/16).
