Truck Repair: timing set on 1994 silverado 5.7 liter, chilton repair manual, brake master cylinder

Question
To set the ignition timing on my 1994 silverado I followed the instructions under the hood. the information on the sticker and in a chilton repair manual directs you to disconnect a tan and black wire from a switch located on the firewall under a fuse cover, this is to bypass the timing. There is no switch to bypass! Do I have to jump my computor to set the timing, if so how do I do this? 1994 silverado 350 auto 2 wheel drive with a/c.

Answer
Hi Walt,
That isn't saying to disconnect a switch.
It says to disconnect a connector. There is a tan wire, usually running along the firewall. The wire has a connector. Just unconnect it. No switch...just a wire.
It may be under the fuse/fuel pump relay cover, or it may be beside the brake master cylinder.
On some Tahoes, I have even heard where the owners have found that connector behind the glove compartment.
But I would expect yours to be under the hood.
Just look for that tan wire, with a black trace line, and follow it to a point where you can open it.
