Hi Mike,
I have a 99 frghtlinr w/a N14 cummins under the valve cover is something called a brake plate on the brake plate are two threaded studs that have a large jam nut on them what r they and how do you adjust them please help I need to get this truck back on the road if at all poss give me a call 901-355-5962

I think you are refering to the jake brake adjustment studs.  If so; there should be a tag on the brake itself that will tell you the adjustment spec.  These adjustments RARELY need adjusted, unless there was major engine work done.  Let me know if you need futher help.  MIKE
