Truck Repair: 1994 Ford f150, r134a freon, inline fuse

Question
I have a ford f150, 5.0, engine 302. My air condition worked one day, and the next it would not work. The clutch will turn on the compressor but it will not kick in. Do you know if there is an inline fuse, or maybe it is electrical? Help it is hot in Arizona

Answer
Hi Janice,
There is defanitely a fuse, and I am almost sure that truck has a relay, but I suspect it is just a little low on freon, and the low pressure switch won't let the compressor work if the freon is too low.
It takes the new R134A freon, which is much cheaper than the old R12, so don't let someone stick it to you...the new stuff is only a few dollars a pound, and you can get a kit to install it for just a few dollars more. Don't let someone tell you you need three pounds at $22./Lb, plus labor. There is a tag that will tell the max charge, so if you drain it all out, and start from empty, it should only be about $6. for the freon, plus the little charge kit.
$20.00 total max if you do your own.
But I bet one can is all you need.
