Truck Repair: ABS Brakes, dodge ram 2500, differential switch

Question
Hello: I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 with a V10 engine. This winter I was picking up a car to tow home. The parking lot was icy and when I applied the brakes the wheel locked up and started sliding. When I got back into the truck I noticied that the ABS light and the Brake light were on. The owners manual says if the light is on the anti-lock brakes aren't working but they still stop the truck although the anti-lock feature doesn't seem to work. The fuse isn't blown the exterior brake lights seem to work properly. Any infromation would be greatly appreciated. Thany You, Gary Nolin

Answer
Hi Gary,
You have antilock brakes, but you also still have the regular brake system like before. There is a differential switch that turns the light on if there is air in one end of the system that allows the valve to shift.
Bleeding a front or a rear brake should reset the valve in the center again, and turn the light off.
