Truck Repair: Chevy truck fuel problems, tow truck driver, chevy 1500

Question
93 Chevy 1500...while at a stop light, truck died. I was able to restart and it ran for a minute and died again. Unable to start after repeated tries. A tow truck driver pounded on the gas tank and it fired right up. And has started since.

Could there have been particles clogging the line? A loose coonection with fuel pump? Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Mike

Answer
Hi Mike,
Sounds like a trip into the tank to replace the fuel pump may be in the near future.
Although it might be the pump itself, I have seen those symptoms caused by a loose or dirty ground connection at the frame, by the tank.
I have also seen loose connections where the harness connects to the tank assembly.
And one more loose connection was inside the tank assembly, where the wires from the tank unit that the pump is mounted on connect to the rivets through the tank unit top. If you replace the pump, be sure to check those wires.
