Truck Repair: Exhaust troubles Pretty Basic I think...., james bond 007, chevy blazer

Question
I am sorry, but James Bond 007 wasn't able to answer your question

I have a very tierd 1987 Chevy Blazer.I drive this only in the winter while my 2001 Camaro sits in the garage safe from salt n slush from Ohio winters.
About a month ago, I noticed it gettin louder and louder.. I truly dont wish to spend the money needed to repair it.
I put it up on my husbands ramps, noticed the Y pipe is cracked up both sides, more so on the passenger side, so on the drivers side I went to town with some Foil and wire.. I also went to a auto parts store and bought this stuff that looked like cast material. and another little kit that had some mesh looking stuff and what looked like aluminun foil tape.
The driver side worked great, I put the mesh looking stuff on then I wrapped it in the foil looking tape, then for extra measures I wrapped it al up in foil and wired it up.. lots of wire.. on the passenger side, I used the cast looking stuff. Let it sit the 2 hours needed, and then pulled it down of the ramps.. oh it worked like a dream I was so proud of myself.
well then we got hit with yet another snow storm, and the next day while out drivin around, it got louder and louder and oh bummed me out.. the driver side is still in tact and quiet, but the side with the cast material is as loud as ever.. It is safe to assume, I can safely wrap the other side with the mesh stuff over the cast material that is left, and re tape it with the foil tape, and then wrap it all up with foil and wire?
Ive been searchin the net today for some hints and tips all i can find is trying something called Tiger Patch or allumium cans ( most cans these days have a raised lip on the bottom, hard to remove both ends) or Liquid Steel.
Im only looking for a quick fix to get me thru the next few months...Any SUggestions would be sooo Greatfull.
Thank you
Linda

Answer
I have a suggestion. you can go to a heavy duty truck parts store and buy a "band clamp" you probablly need a 2 inch clamp but measure first. this clamp raps around like a can and seems a little small but it sretches and bolted tight. the better ones are made by Dolaldson. this always got me by.
