I have a '96 Ford F53 34' motorhome with a 460 engine that has 38000 miles. While driving for two hours on interstate 8 west bound at approx. 65mph the engine started to loose power and after about 10miles finely quit running while doing about 30mph. I tried to start it but it ran real rough and made popping sounds like backfire from the exhaust and under the hood before dieing out again. I was towed to Yuma, Az and the shop found the fuel pump was OK but had a plugged fuel filter. This was changed, road tested  and off I went. After driving 110 miles the same thing happened, lost power and the engine died. Seems like after it sits for a few hours or over night it runs fine but acts up again. If I loosen the gas cap and this takes care of the problem, should I leave the cap loose all the time or does the tank have a vent that may be plugged? Thanks

Try loosening the gas cap. It may be starving for fuel if air can't get into the tank.

Answer
I'm not sure where you will find it on a motorhome, but there is a vent somewhere. May be a solenoid valve, found in emission parts.
I think the cap, itself, is NOT vented.
But if loosening it will do the trick, you can find the vent problem later.
Now, on new cars, if you run with the cap loose, it will turn a dash light on, but that is just an emission reminder, and won't affect the operation.
I doubt that your motorhome will do that.
Good luck,
