Truck Repair: 2000 dodge deisel fuel problem, dodge deisel, deisel fuel

Question
I just bought a 2000 dodge diesel 1 ton truck
When I started it yesterday it ran perfect and
only went about 100 yards and it died. Could not
get it restarted and it is not getting fuel.
I found a fuel pump on the left side of the engine
is there a fuel pump in the tank ? and what is the testing procedure to isolate where the problem is.  The truck has 75,000 miles and is this common for the mileage ?
Thanks

Answer
There is an electric transfer pump on the left side rear of engine. It should have 10-15 psi all the time while engine is running. There usually are some fittings to check pressure.Just bump starter & it will run for 20 secs.Check fuel pressure & if it is below 10 psi, replace the transfer pump.A little advice,go to a Cummins dealer or distributor for the transfer pump.Dodge wants 3 prices for a Cummins part.
