Vintage Cars: black smoke and black dust, black dust, baty

Question

380 SL
I purchased a 1985 380 SL Mercedes that has been setting .It
has 70,000 k. It starts real good but has allot of sooty black
smoke and a rough idle. Do you think maybe a good tune up will
fix her? Can you recommend a good oil  Thanks, Carl Baty

Answer
cant hurt as a start , basic tune up - plugs, points  timing and  include injector rebuild, filters oil, get rid of old gas
I'd run 15-40 Rotella or Penzoil
Black smoke can mean a lot of things - bad rings = oil or running rich =leaking injectors or badly in need of tune up
good luck , keep me posted
