Vintage Cars: 1971 XKE, pressure relief valve, oil pressure

Question
Jo;
    Thanks for the answers about oil pressure. The oil pressure drops below 20 psi while running and the engine hot. Could the problem be the oil pump? What I don't understand is that the pressure drops as you increase the rpm's.

Answer
Don--

OK, that's clearer, but weird! And unfortunately mostly beyond my expertise.

A problem pump is possible (unlikely given the fall in pressure as the rpm rises), but you should also suspect either the pressure relief valve or--just as likely--the oil pressure sensor/sender, which sends a voltage to the gauge. (If that's bad, your pressure may be fine; just wrongly reported.)

But you really need a Jag expert for details on those two items, or detailed manual/parts list with diagrams. For your next stop, consider www.jag4jag.com.

Sorry not to be more help
