Vintage Cars: installing a new stereo in my 78mgb, starter solenoid, battery connection

Question
I am putting a new stereo in my mg and I need to know what wire in the dash next to the radio is always hot.  The instructions say that I need a wire that is hot all of the time even when the switch is turned off.
 Thank you for helping me

Answer
I probably should have answered this "don't know"...specific wiring in a late B is beyond my expertise, and you may have to break your back getting to this stuff. But if you can get to the back of the dash...the most likely place is the lamps. The switch should always be live with ignition off. So if you are fairly limber, you might hang upside down by the pedals and poke likely looking wires/connectors behind the dash with a tester light.

But if your back is not up to it, note that there's nothing to stop you simply running a wire up yourself from a permanently live contact in the front (e.g. the fat battery connection to the starter solenoid) through a suitable grommet hole in the bulkhead.

PS Thanks... It occurs to me that you may well be able to get the lamp switch out of the front of the dash (unscrew, or pop out if toggle). Then just check with tester light. If live, you're almost done. But do make sure that your piggy-back onto the live wire is secure. A reasonable way to split a wire is a double spade connector, except (as you may notice from previous electric comments I've made) watch out for those crimps. A nice hot flowing dollop of solder on the crimps is best. Then wrap with good tape.
