Vintage Cars: What Car is This?, ac shelby cobra, carroll shelby

Question

What Car is This?
Hi Jeff, I saw this car in my office's parking deck, but I have no idea what it is.  I've asked around, and most people seem to think it's either a Corvette or Shelby GT.  I don't the owner so I can't ask him or her.  I think this is a very nice looking car.  Thanks!

Answer
It's an AC Shelby Cobra.  A British company, AC Bristol, provided the bodies, Ford provided the engines, and Carroll Shelby himself put the first of these together to create one of the fastest cars of the 1960's.  They were built in the 1964-1969 era, and if it's an ORIGINAL, genuine Cobra, then it's worth at least $150,000; I've seen high-quality examples go for close to $1 million at the right auction.  However, several companies have made "replicas" of these over the past 30 years; considering this one is left open, in a parking deck, would make me believe this one's a copy.  If you want to know more, all you need to do is search the internet for terms like "AC Shelby Cobra" and you'll be amazed at the amount of info that will turn up.  The original has been a highly sought-after car for many years, and as a result there's a lot of history and info available on the car.  Interesting color combo- I've never seen that on anything but a Harley-Davidson before.  Is there a Harley dealer nearby? ;-)
