Vintage Cars: 1967 Lincoln Continental Sedan, lincoln land, beautiful cars

Question
Hello, I know a kid who is selling the above car, and he doesn't have any price set except for "less than a thousand". The car isn't in great shape, the dash has large cracks and a couple door panels have large tears in them. He says the motor ran last time he tried it, but the gas tank is removed now, I'm not sure why. I'm not sure about rust, I didn't have a chance to check. I'm wondering what I should offer him for it? I wouldn't want to pay more than around $300, but I don't want to low-ball him too bad. What do you think?   Thanks for your help

Answer
I usually reject "what's-it-worth" questions, as I can't truthfully appraise a car I can't see.  BUT- you just happen to have found one of my all-time favorite vehicles, so it deserves a deeper answer.  I believe the '66-'67 Continentals will go down as some of the most beautiful cars ever made, and were, without a doubt, some of the most highly-crafted vehicles to ever come out of Detroit.  HOWEVER- any '61-'67 Continental not in sound physical and running condition would be prohibitively expensive to restore; from what you're describing, this is a parts car.  If the battery is charged and hooked up, and most of the power goodies are working (windows, seat and at least the radio), if the exterior trim is salvageable, then I doubt you'll get it for $300.  $1,000 might be a bit high, so I'm thinking you'll have to settle on a number somewhere in the middle.  A suggestion:  contact Lincoln Land in Clearwater, FL, and ask Chris what he might think it's worth- he'll forget more about these cars than you and I will ever learn!
