Vintage Cars: stalling at idle ., fuel pressure regulator, fuel hoses

Question
QUESTION: Hey Ron!
Sent the injectors to be refurbished installed them yesterday, changed the fuel hoses too.Ran much smoother,no question. After driving around for a while today at a stop light the rpm and oil p was getting weaker and weaker. The engine finally conked out.The only way to keep it running would be to give it gas.I was able to get home by keeping my foot on the accelerator the whole time and controlling the car with the brake(No fun).It was running beautifully yesterday, after the injectors were replaced. It didn't skip a beat.Any clue?

ANSWER: Don't you love old cars!  My first thought is fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator, however this system must have good vacuum, so check for loose hose clamp, or break in the other lines of the system.  the fuel pump also has one or perhaps two fuses so look at them as well/
When you turn the key to on do you hear the fuel system pressurize?
Other symptoms?
let me know.  We need to rule out fuel delivery first and then check other items such as throttle plate position and ECU

QUESTION: Good Morning Ron,
I had a hunch, this morning I walked up to the car and it started right up solid. When i had issues like this in the summer it turned out there was a loose connection to the thermal timer. On doing the injectors that repaired connection broke(soldered directly to the timer) I removed the timer and soldered further down this device.Could I have fried the thing?Could I bypass the thermal timer by connecting both wires and if the car warms up and doesn't start acting up this might be it.What do you think.

Answer
Well I am not a fan of bypassing unless absolutely necessary.  I doubt you fried the device. What does it do exactly?  On Mercedes we have what is called a cold start compensator ( helps to send more fuel to the injectors when engine is cold)  Is there any way to make a more secure connection using a wire splice connector?
Sorry I cannot be more specific.   I will see if I can find out some more info on the device
In any respect looks like you found your problem,  remember what I told you earlier, whenever you have something show up suddenly that was not there before, review the last thing you did, you can ususally find the cause!
