Vintage Cars: Pricing a 1971 Chevelle Malibu Convertible, 1971 chevelle malibu, tilt wheel

Question
Dear Mr. Troise:
I want to sell a 1971 Chevelle 350 Malibu convertible, V8 automatic transmission, power steering, tilt wheel, AMFM radio. 86.000 original miles. Black with black top.  No repairs.
I don't know what to ask for it.  Can you please give me some idea of what to ask?
   Thank you for your time.
Helen Graham

Answer
Hi Helen,

This isn't an easy car to price without seeing it. But presuming it's still attractive and is NOT an SS model, prices can vary between $10,000-$15,000.

Condition really counts for a lot here, as does originality. If the car has been repainted, or if there are custom parts on it, well, that might affect value.

You should probably have it appraised before you sell it, but I think I'm in the ballpark here, if the car is decent and if it isn't an SS model (which are worth considerably more).

If you are in the San Francisco area, I could refer you to reputable dealers to help you sell the car.

good luck,

Joe Troise
