How to Lease a Ford Fusion

If you are interested in leasing a compact car that seats four with good gas mileage, the Ford Fusion meets those requirements. The 2011 Ford Fusion is the current edition of the vehicle, as of October 2010. A total of seven different Ford Fusion models are available, including a hybrid model. According to the Ford website, the current October 2010 lease offer is a 24-month lease for the Fusion IS4 with a monthly payment of $193 and $2,830 due at signing. Other lease terms and payment amounts are available for this and the other Fusion models.

  • Complete the online credit application on the Ford Credit website (see Resources). In order to lease a Ford Fusion, you must be approved through Ford Credit. This is no different than other car manufacturers, who also require that you be approved through their in-house financing for a lease. The required credit score to qualify is not divulged on the Ford Credit website. Your credit application decision appears on the screen in less than one minute.

  • Print the credit decision that you receive. Even if you are not approved or told that your application cannot be completed, you should still print out the decision letter. If you cannot print the letter, or had other problems, you can complete the credit application at the dealership and get an immediate response. The Ford dealer can also retrieved any already completed application from the last 60 days.

  • Bring your credit decision letter, even if it is not favorable, to your local Ford dealer. You can find the closest dealer by using the Dealer Locator on the Ford Vehicles website (see Resources). Present the letter to one of the sales representatives to begin your lease paperwork. If your paperwork states that you are not approved, the finance department will try to help you with your Ford Fusion lease.

  • Choose your lease term and Ford Fusion model before you complete the lease paperwork. You can look at models available on the Ford dealer's lot or you can base your decision purely on numbers and use the lease payment calculator on the Ford website (see Resources). Lease terms available for all of the Ford Fusion models are 27, 36, 39 or 48 months. The down payment amount for a Ford Fusion lease is 10 percent of the cost of the Fusion, which varies by model. The standard allotment of yearly miles is 10,500 per year. However, you can pay for more miles, either 12,000 or 15,000. The fee for more miles varies by Fusion model, but adds around $10 more per month for 12,000 miles and $30 more per month for 15,000 miles.
