If the factory-installed, rubber brake lines on your Pontiac Grand Prix are damaged in any way, they must be replaced immediately. New stainless steel lines improve braking performance, as well as make the car look good.
Lay out the entire replacement brake line kit for your year Grand Prix. Identify which lines are for the front and back if you are replacing them all.
Support your Grand Prix on jack stands and remove the wheel. Trace the brake line from the hose to the last section connected by bolts.
Study the section of brake line. Notice where and how it is bent. This reduces strain on the line while driving the car. Bend the replacement line in the same way.
Remove the brake line from the car by disconnecting the bolts. There should be two bolts on each connector. Use two line wrenches to remove them.
Install the replacement line. Attach the bolts by hand first, then tighten them with the line wrenches.
Bleed the brake system to remove air from it. Open the bleeder valve on the caliper and connect it to a container of brake fluid through a clear vinyl tube. Have another person hold down on the pedal to purge the air.
Replace the wheel and lower the car. Repeat the process for the other three sections. Refill the master cylinder reservoir with fluid and test the brakes after all lines are replaced.
