How to Measure Wheel Bases

Wheelbase is measured from the centerline of your front wheel to the centerline of your rear wheel. Major differences in the wheelbase from side-to-side, or from factory specification, may indicate worn or bent suspension components.

Taking the Measurement

  • Park the vehicle on a level surface. Using a straight edge or square find the centerline of the front wheel and mark the ground or your tire and do the same for the rear wheel. Measure the distance between the two marks with a tape measure. The measurement should be the same on both sides of the vehicle.
