How to Get a Starter Out of a Third Generation Camaro

The starter inside of your third-generation Camaro is used to turn on the car's engine. When it can no longer complete this task, it will need to be replaced. The starter is located near the underside of the engine bay, which means that you will need to lift the car and slide underneath in order to access it.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • 3/8-inch socket
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable from the negative battery terminal.

  • Place a stopper or a brick firmly behind each of the rear wheels.

  • Lift the front end of the Camaro using a jack. Secure the car in place with jack stands.

  • Slide underneath the passenger side of the vehicle and locate the starter. It will be above the exhaust tubing on the underside of the engine.

  • Unplug the two wiring harnesses on the starter.

  • Unscrew the bolts on the starter by using a socket wrench and a 3/8-inch socket.

  • Remove the starter from the Camaro's engine.
