Reasons Why an Infiniti J30 Will Not Crank

Having car troubles can be a real hassle, especially when you have no idea what is wrong. Fortunately, most engine problems on an Infinite J30 are pretty easy to troubleshoot. The main reason why an Infiniti J30 will stop cranking can be narrowed down to a problem in the fueling system, the battery or the starter system. A quick check of these three systems will usually eliminate the majority of likely issues.

Empty Fuel Tank

  • The first thing to check if your car isn't starting is the fuel tank. An empty fuel tank will not send gas to the engine, thus causing the engine to stall or not crack at all. Find out if your car is parked on an incline. This can cause the fuel in the tank to flow to one side of the tank or the other causing the fuel tank to appear empty when it's not. Make sure the car is parked on level ground and try to start the car again.

Faulty Battery

  • A faulty battery can cause several issues in your car including causing the engine to not turn over. Battery problems include a dead battery or just a loose set of battery cables. If you attempt to start your car and you notice that no lights are coming on inside your dashboard, it's likely that something is wrong with the battery. Open the hood and check to make sure the battery cables are securely connected to the battery. Also look for frayed areas in your battery cable. If your car still doesn't start, try to jump start the battery to make sure the battery isn't dead.

Clogged Fuel Filter or Fuel Pump

  • An issue in the fueling system can cause limit the amount of gas sent to the engine. Some issues in the fueling system, like a fuel leak, are best left up to a professional mechanic. However, there are certain issues that you can easily diagnose and fix. A clogged fuel filter or bad fuel pump can be replaced in a less than an hour with the proper tools. Simply locate the fuel filter or fuel pump and inspect the part for excessive dirt, frayed wires or holes. Both can be found somewhere along the fuel line either underneath your vehicle near the fuel tank or underneath the hood near the engine. Replace the part if necessary.

Damaged Spark Plug

  • The spark plug is a component of the ignition that ignites the compressed air-fuel mixture, thus starting your vehicle. Your engine won't be able to turn on if the spark plug is damaged. There can be several issues with your spark plug. Wet fouling is when the tip of the plug is downed in oil. Splash fouling and glazing are two conditions that occur when mineral and dirt deposits form on the spark plug causing the plug to misfire. Both conditions can be fixed with a tune-up. Another simple issue is overheating which can cause the spark plug to blister.
