Your vehicle's front suspension is a complicated array of springs, gas-filled shocks and metal "arms" and "joints" that keep your vehicle on the road and going in the direction that you want it to. When something goes wrong, you will usually get some warning (though, it may not be much) before the suspension completely fails. Before having any work done, you need to troubleshoot any noises coming from the front suspension of your vehicle.
Listen for squeaking coming from the front suspension while traveling over bumps in the road. This is normally just the bushings in the control arms. They will need to be replaced. However, it could also indicate that one of the coils is broken or is about to fail and the spring set needs to be replaced.
Check for squeaking while bouncing when going over uneven surfaces in the road. If your front suspension squeaks while bouncing, it can indicate that the shocks are worn and need to be replaced.
Check for a metallic clunking sound. This indicates worn ball joints. Worn ball joints are a serious problem that need to be addressed immediately. If your ball joints fail while you are driving, your vehicle's suspension could literally come apart and you could end up in a fatal crash.
