How to Troubleshoot a 2006 Ford F150

The F-150 is part of the F-series of full-size pickup trucks made by Ford Motor Company. The F-150 happens to be the most popular of the series, outselling all other Ford models and has, in recent years (as of August 2009) made up half of General Motors profit. The F-150 is not without its problems, however, and this includes the 2006 model. Various electrical problems as well as mechanical problems plagued the truck in 2006. The most common problems were, thankfully, covered by a factory recall on the particular item. To take advantage of the recall, take your F-150 to an authorized Ford dealership.

  • Check your Ford F-150 for Contitrac tires. Some Ford F-150s were fitted with Contitrac brand tires from the factory which were not properly manufactured. As a result the tires can malfunction and fail prematurely - causing catastrophic failure at low or high speeds. This item can be replaced under a recall by calling 704-588-5895.

  • Check your F-150's brake booster vacuum hose. The vacuum hose is known to swell over time and come disconnected from the brake booster. Brake function will be severely limited and increased brake pedal effort will be required to stop the vehicle. This item is covered by a factory recall by visiting a Ford dealership.

  • Check your F-150 for windshield wiper malfunction. The 2006 Ford F-150 was fitted with a windshield wiper motor that did not have a greased output shaft gear. As a result, during operation of the windshield wipers, the output shaft gear will fracture causing a failure of the wiper motor. This item will be serviced free of charge by an authorized Ford dealership.
