The valve stems on road tires of Ford's 2004 Expedition are antennas that use radio frequency signals to transmit tire pressure information to the truck's tire pressure monitoring system module about every 60 seconds, once the Expedition is moving at least 20 mph. After replacing a sensor, perform the retraining procedure to turn off the TPMS warning indicator on the instrument cluster. If the Expedition is equipped with the message center, performing the retrain procedure removes the error message from the message center display.

Within two minutes, place the activation tool on the valve stem of the rear driver-side tire pressure sensor. The horn sounds once and if the Expedition is equipped with the message center, it will display "Tire Training Mode Complete." Turn the ignition switch to the "Off" position.
