How to Fix the Evaporator Drain on an Equinox

The Chevrolet Equinox was introduced by General Motors in 2002. A smaller-size SUV, the Equinox has an evaporator drain in the engine compartment. The evaporator drain is attached to the firewall and is important for the Equinox's coolant system to operate properly. If you find that your evaporator drain is malfunctioning or has a leak, the best solution is to replace it. Evaporator drains are fairly inexpensive and simple to replace.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • Drain pan
  • Open the hood of the Equinox and place a drain pan underneath the radiator drain plug.

  • Use a socket wrench to open the drain plug and wait five minutes for all of the coolant to drain from the Equinox. Tighten the drain plug when the coolant has been drained.

  • Remove the bolts from the evaporator drain. There are two bolts connecting it to the radiator and two connecting it to the firewall. Remove the evaporator drain.

  • Place a new evaporator drain into the engine compartment of the Equinox and secure it by reattaching the bolts.

  • Open the radiator cap. Pour the coolant back into the radiator and close the cap. Close the hood.
