How to Repair the Distributor on a Nissan Truck

The Nissan truck distributor delivers high voltage power to the spark plug wires. The wires then pass this electrical charge on to the spark plugs, which ignites the fuel/air mixture in the cylinders to complete the combustion process. It is not hard to replace the distributor, but you have to do it carefully in order to make the project as easy as possible. This procedure will help you to change the distributor and avoid having to re-time the engine when complete.

Things You'll Need

  • Wrench set
  • Marker
  • Disconnect the negative cable from the battery using a wrench. Unfasten the retaining clips and lift the distributor cap straight up from the distributor.

  • Remove the dustcover and mark the rotor button position in relation to the distributor body using the marker. Mark the position of the distributor body in relation to the engine block using the marker.

  • Disconnect the harness assembly from the distributor. Remove the pinch-bolt and lift the distributor straight up, away from the engine. Make marks on the new distributor equivalent to the marks on the old one to match timing.

  • Mark the new rotor button to match the marks on the old one. Place the new distributor on the engine by pushing it straight down into place. Line the distributor up with the mark you made on the engine and lock it in place with the pinch-bolt.

  • Place the rotor button on the distributor and line the marks up. Place the distributor cap on the distributor body and lock it into place with the snap clips.
