How to Install a Sliding Rear Window in an S-10

Installing a sliding rear window in your S-10 is fairly simple and straightforward, although you do have to be extremely careful to not drop or break the glass. As the rear windows on the S-10 cannot generally be lowered, having a sliding window gives you the option for some extra ventilation. It should only take about half an hour to install a sliding rear window on your Chevrolet S-10.

Things You'll Need

  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Adhesive
  • Remove the rubber seal around the sliding rear window, all along the edge of the window. You may need to heat up the seal with a blow dryer in order for the adhesive to become pliable. If you still find that you are having trouble removing the seal, use a flathead screwdriver to pry off the seal, but be careful not to damage the glass.

  • Slide the small sliding window off the windshield. As it is smaller in height than the windshield, the sliding window slides out easily.

  • Install the replacement window by sliding it into the slot on the windshield.

  • Put the adhesive all along the edge of the window. Silicon adhesive is preferred, but other adhesives are acceptable.

  • Reattach the rubber seal to the sliding rear window, holding it in place for two minutes to allow it to dry. Pull on the seal to make sure it is secure.
