How to Disable Electronic Locks on a KIA Optima

In 2001, KIA Motors introduced the mid-size Optima. The front-wheel drive Optima initially received a standard 2.4-liter in-line four-cylinder engine, mated to a five speed manual gearbox. Subsequent model year changes include the addition of a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, updated styling, enhanced safety features and upgraded creature comforts, as seen in certain optionally equipped 2011 models. Vehicles that feature electronic door locking system will allow you to quickly and conveniently enter and exit the vehicle. Disabling the electronic locks may prove necessary if the system experiences a malfunction, preventing normal door lock operation.

Things You'll Need

  • Automotive fuse puller
  • Open the vehicle's driver's side door and locate the fuse panel, mounted on the outer portion of the dashboard.

  • Pull the fuse panel cover off the side of the dashboard. Examine the fuse diagram printed on the rear of the fuse panel cover.

  • Find the fuse labeled "DR LOCK" on the fuse diagram and remove the corresponding fuse from the dashboard panel using an automotive fuse puller. Removing the fuse will disable the electronic circuitry associated with the door locking mechanisms.
