How to Repair the Ceiling on a Honda Civic

There's nothing more annoying than when you develop a rip or tear in the headliner on the inside ceiling of your Honda Civic. There are ways to fix tears, however, without having to replace the entire headliner in your car. One way to mend tears is by using fabric mending strips. These strips are sold in the fabric section of most department stores and in fabric stores. It takes approximately 20 minutes to repair a tear in your Civic's roof fabric.

Things You'll Need

  • Tacks
  • Fabric repair strips
  • Damp cloth
  • Iron
  • Extension cord
  • Plug an extension cord into an outside outlet, and then plug the iron into the extension cord. Set your iron on the "wool" setting.

  • Pin up the pieces of fabric with the tacks so that the ends of the tear are close to each other.

  • Overlap the fabric repair strips, like Stitch Witchery, between and over the border of the tear. Place a thin, damp rag over the tear.

  • Press the iron onto the seam of the tear. Allow the iron to sit in place for 10 seconds. This will fix the tear. Remove the tacks and dispose of them.
