Most off-road ATVs have very few electronics on them, so they use a 6-volt battery system. The battery might lose its charge after sitting idle for a few days, or if a component, such as the stator, has failed. If this occurs at an inopportune time, you might need a jump start if the ATV has too large of an engine to pull-start. Jump starting an ATV is much like jump starting a car, except for the location of the battery.
Park the donor ATV (the one that will be used for power) next to the non-running ATV. Turn the Donor ATV's engine off.
Remove the seats of both ATVs. Pull up on the lever between the seat cushion and the body of the ATV, then pull the seat cushion up. Set the seat to the side. Notice that the battery lies under where the seat was.
Pull back the plastic covers that protect the terminals on the batteries for both the donor and non-running ATVs.
Clamp the positive jumper cable connectors on the positive terminal (indicated by a plus-sign) of both the donor and non-running ATV batteries.
Clamp the negative jumper cable connectors on the negative terminal (indicated by a minus-sign) of the donor and non-running ATV batteries.
Turn the non-running ATV's ignition to the "On" position. Press and hold the "Start" button until the ATV is running.
Remove the negative jumper cables from both ATVs' batteries. Remove the positive jumper cables from both ATVs' batteries.
Pull the plastic protectors back over the battery terminals on both ATVs and replace the seats on both ATVs, making certain the seats click into place.
