The Polaris Sportsman 800 ATV is equipped with rear shocks that can be adjusted manually. A rear shock adjustment on the sportsman is a straightforward job that should take 30 minutes to an hour. Each shock must be adjusted individually, ans also should be adjusted about the same amount so you have an even ride. When you adjust one shock, remember how much it was adjusted and adjust the other shock the same amount.
Place the floor jack under the rear of the Polaris. Jack it up and place the jack stands under the chassis. Lower the ATV onto the jack stands and ensure that it is stable.
Find both of the rear shocks. They will be in back of the wheels. Look at the bottom of the shocks and see that there is a ring with a small notch on it. The ring will be on the very bottom of the shock, just above where it is attached to the wheel.
Spray the lubricant around the rings on both shocks and give it a minute or two to work its way into the shocks.
Use the channel locks to turn the rings on the shocks. Turn them clockwise to tighten the suspension and counterclockwise to loosen the suspension.
Raise the Polaris off of the jack stands and remove them. Lower the ATV back to the floor. Push down on the back of the ATV to make sure the suspension is how you like it.
